Ayr restaurant 3idiots Ayr Tapas has been named among the five best Indian restaurants in Ayrshire in a ranking based on TripAdvisor listings. The George Street venue was the only Ayr restaurant included in the list, which also features restaurants in Prestwick, Kilmarnock, Girvan and Saltcoats.
The ranking highlights the range of Indian food available across Ayrshire, from traditional curries and Indian tapas to Nepalese specialities and large international buffets. Restaurants across the region have attracted hundreds of positive reviews from diners, with several receiving recognition from TripAdvisor.
3idiots Ayr Tapas in Ayr
Listed at 10 George Street, 3idiots Ayr Tapas is recognised for Indian and Asian cuisine. Its offer is built around Indian tapas-style food, allowing diners to order smaller dishes and sample several flavours rather than choosing one main course.
The restaurant’s menu also includes traditional curries, biryanis, house specialities and vegan dishes. That gives the venue a broader offer than tapas alone, with options ranging from familiar Indian dishes to plant-based choices.
The other restaurants on the list
Topping the ranking is Taj Bar & Kitchen on Main Street in Prestwick. The business says the same family has operated at the same address for around 40 years. Its food combines Indian home cooking with a modern twist, while the venue also has a cocktail bar and hosts live music and entertainment from local acts.
Second place goes to Brown Munde in Kilmarnock, which is listed for Indian and Asian cuisine. The restaurant encourages customers to try smaller dishes and experience a wider selection of flavours. Its official website says its chefs have more than 20 years of combined experience in Scottish Indian restaurants, and that its homemade food is prepared without additional oils and colourings.
Yasmins Fine Indian Cuisine in Girvan takes fourth place. Located on Dalrymple Street, it specialises in Indian cuisine and offers options suitable for a range of dietary requirements. The restaurant has built a strong reputation among visitors to Girvan.
The fifth restaurant is Motherland Spice in Saltcoats. The award-winning, family-run business says it has operated since 2012 and combines Indian and Nepalese cuisine. It says chefs were brought from India and Nepal to Ayrshire, and highlights Chicken Tikka Baja and Lamb Tawa among its signature dishes.
Motherland Spice also says it is the only restaurant in Scotland serving those two particular dishes. The TripAdvisor-based ranking therefore places Ayr’s tapas-focused venue alongside restaurants offering different interpretations of Indian and South Asian food across the wider region.
