An 85-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a car in Ayr town centre, with police appealing for further witnesses and dashcam footage.
The crash happened on Arthur Street at around 11.45am on Tuesday, September 22. The vehicle involved was a grey Audi A1, which failed to stop at the scene.
The injured man was taken to Crosshouse Hospital. His injuries were described as serious but non-life-threatening.
Driver arrested after car traced
Police traced the Audi a short time after the collision. A 41-year-old man was arrested in connection with the crash, while enquiries remain ongoing.
The incident happened in a busy part of Ayr, with other pedestrians and drivers nearby. Police have thanked people who stopped to speak with officers and are asking anyone else who may have information to come forward.
Appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage
Sergeant Gordon Stewart, from the Irvine Road Policing Unit, said:
“We know this incident took place in a busy area, with other pedestrians and drivers nearby. “We would like to thank those who stopped to speak with police, but appeal for anyone else with information or possible dashcam footage from the scene to please come forward.”
Anyone who witnessed the collision or may have captured footage from Arthur Street is being asked to contact police. The investigation is continuing.
