A cubicle in the beachfront public toilets in Ayr was closed after an indecent hole was discovered ahead of the International Ayr Show weekend.
The circular opening, described in the report as a so-called “gloryhole”, has since been temporarily filled. South Ayrshire Council also said a replacement panel will be installed as part of its ongoing maintenance programme.
What happened at the Ayr toilets
The issue affected a stall in the beachfront gentlemen’s toilets. A resident, who chose not to be named, alerted both the Ayr Advertiser and South Ayrshire Council after noticing the problem.
The cubicle was closed while action was taken. Images accompanying the report showed the opening after it had been covered.
Council repair promised
South Ayrshire Council said it acted quickly after being made aware of the issue, ahead of the Festival of Flight weekend, also referred to in the report as the International Ayr Show.
“We strive to ensure our public conveniences are fit for their intended purpose. When we were made aware of the issue, we acted quickly to make repairs. A replacement panel will be fitted as part of our ongoing maintenance programme.”
The council’s immediate response has left the opening covered, while the permanent replacement panel remains part of planned maintenance work. The report did not give a date for when that panel will be fitted.
