An electrician from Ayr is through to the national final of the Screwfix Top Tradesperson 2026 competition, with a £20,000 prize bundle at stake.
Neil Claxton earned one of only 10 finalist places from across the UK and Ireland after impressing judges during the semi-final stage. He was recognised for his enthusiasm for the trade and his commitment to going the extra mile for customers.
Ayr electrician to compete at Screwfix Live
The 2026 final will be held at Screwfix Live on September 25. Neil and the other nine finalists will present to a panel of industry experts as they compete for the overall title.
The prize bundle includes tools, technology and training, offering the winner further support for their work in the electrical trade.
Supporting apprentices and local projects
Neil has worked in the trade for 21 years. Following early challenges in his career, he established his own business and went on to build a successful electrical company.
He now leads a team made up of electricians, apprentices and office staff. The business promotes a positive, family-oriented workplace culture, while Neil places particular emphasis on training and development for apprentices.
He also works with schools to encourage young people to consider apprenticeships and practical careers. Neil and his team have donated time and skills to community projects, including the conversion of a bus for a charity supporting disabled children.

To be recognised among such talented tradespeople is an honour and it’s great to be able to represent Ayr and the electrical trade.”
