A 78-year-old Ayr man has admitted a series of sexual offences involving men and women at his flat on South Harbour Street, including incidents alleged to have continued while he was on bail.
Hervey Gibson, who uses a wheelchair, pleaded guilty at Ayr Sheriff Court to several charges of intentionally exposing himself and carrying out sexual acts in the presence of other people. The incidents took place at his home on various occasions between July 1, 2025, and December 18, 2025.
The charges included intentionally exposing his genitals in a sexual manner to two men and a woman, with the intention that they would see him. Gibson also admitted exposing himself to a man named in a third criminal complaint from the Procurator Fiscal on December 9 last year at his address.
Further incident in Churchill Tower close
A further charge related to March 8, described in court as “this year”. Gibson admitted exposing himself in a sexual manner to another woman after she saw him standing naked in the common close of Churchill Tower, facing the lift and continually staring at her.
He also pleaded guilty to intentionally engaging in sexual activity in front of two women at his flat on August 7, 2025. The charge involved him handling his genitals and performing a sexual act on himself.
On August 14, he admitted intentionally exposing his genitals to a woman, intending that she would see them.
September incidents and charges
Gibson admitted directing an unwanted sexual verbal communication at a woman in September last year and making a sexual remark to her. On the same date, he admitted engaging in activity in front of two women while naked.
The court heard that he repeatedly exposed himself to women on September 8, 2025, including a further incident involving three women. On September 30, he again engaged in sexual activity in front of three women after carrying out a sexual act.
Not guilty pleas were accepted in relation to other similar charges.
Sentencing deferred
The Advertiser previously reported that Gibson had faced a single allegation before returning to Ayr Sheriff Court on further charges. His first name was amended from “Harvey” to Hervey.
Sentencing has been deferred to allow criminal justice social work reports and a risk assessment to be prepared. Bail was continued, and Gibson was made subject to police notification requirements under the sex offenders register ahead of sentencing.
