A 24-year-old man has been found not guilty of three sexual offence charges following a jury trial at Ayr Sheriff Court.
Callum Collie was acquitted of allegations relating to Ayr and West Kilbride, along with a claim that he made indecent comments to a woman near Troon Beach. The verdicts were delivered when he returned to court on Monday, August 24, after the trial the previous week.
Charges heard by the jury
The first allegation concerned an incident said to have taken place at Portencross Castle in West Kilbride on February 7, 2024. Collie was accused of sexually assaulting the same woman by touching her buttocks and inner thigh.
A second charge related to an alleged incident involving another woman at an address in Ayr between July 1 and July 13, 2024. The indictment alleged that Collie removed the woman’s clothing, carried out a sexual act with his hand and placed her hand on his private parts.
The third charge concerned alleged sexual verbal communications directed at a woman in an open space near Troon Beach on February 11, 2024. The Crown claimed the remarks were made without her consent and were intended to obtain sexual gratification or to humiliate, distress or alarm her.
Verdicts at Ayr Sheriff Court
The jury found Collie not guilty unanimously on charges one and two. He was found not guilty by a majority on charge three.
The case had previously been reported as involving allegations that he asked the woman how many people she had kissed and slept with, and spoke about the size of his private member.
Collie, of Dongola Road, Ayr, had pleaded not guilty to all charges on the indictment. His bail had previously been continued. The verdicts mean he has been acquitted of all three charges brought before the jury.
