A 50-year-old Ayr man has denied allegations that he broke into a house in Bourtree Park, stole a woman’s purse and attempted to use her bank card.
Scott Alexander Brown pleaded not guilty to charges of breaking into a property and theft when he appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court for a pre-trial hearing on Wednesday, September 16. The allegations relate to an incident said to have taken place on August 26, 2025.
Allegations before the court
The court was told that Brown allegedly entered a house occupied by a woman named in the indictment. He is accused of taking her purse, which allegedly contained a Bank of Scotland card and a sum of money.
Brown faces a further charge alleging that he used the stolen card in the woman’s name. He is also accused of forcing open, or attempting to force open, a lockfast automated teller machine at Morrisons on Castlehill Road, with the intention of stealing.
Next stage of the case
Brown appeared represented by Donna Maitland and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Bail was continued, meaning he remains subject to bail while the case progresses.
A further pre-trial first diet hearing has been set for next month. The court heard that a trial is expected to last three or four days, although that estimate could be reduced to one or two days if further evidence can be agreed.
Brown, of Church Street in Ayr, will face the charges again at a later date. The allegations have not been proven in court.
