Rail passengers travelling from Ayr and across Ayrshire will face two weeks of disruption as buses replace trains during a £13.5 million track upgrade programme at Kilmarnock Station.
The railway between Barrhead and Dumfries will close for 16 days, from Saturday, August 29 until Monday, September 14. The work is being carried out as part of a major engineering programme intended to improve journey times and reliability on the route linking Glasgow, Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway.
Replacement buses between Kilmarnock and Troon
Replacement buses will operate between Kilmarnock and Troon. Passengers can connect at Troon with trains travelling to and from Ayr, although the bus replacement service will remain in place until the work has been completed.
The closure will affect services on the railway between Barrhead and Dumfries, with buses serving stops in between. Trains will continue to run between Glasgow Central and Barrhead, and between Dumfries and Carlisle.
Station pick-up points
Passengers using Auchinleck station should use the main-road public bus stops beneath the railway bridge for rail-replacement bus pick-up and drop-off. At New Cumnock, the designated point will be in the station car park.
The works are focused on Kilmarnock Station and are intended to support more reliable journeys on a key route for people travelling through Ayrshire. ScotRail has advised that the replacement buses will operate throughout the disruption period.
