People in Ayr will have the chance to explore experimental photography and make their own darkroom prints during a photogram printmaking workshop at 85 CREATE.

What participants will learn
A photogram is a cameraless photographic process. Instead of using a camera, participants place objects directly onto photographic paper and expose the paper to light. The result is an abstract composition created through the contrast between light and shadow.
The process was popularised during the 1920s by Dada artist and photographer Man Ray and Constructivist artist El Lissitzky. The workshop presents photograms as a creative process shaped by chance and mystery, while also introducing the techniques and equipment involved in traditional darkroom work.
Photographer and educator Mike Stone, who uses the Instagram handle @_rodinal, will lead the session. Participants will be introduced to the darkroom environment, including safe lighting procedures and processing equipment. They will also receive guidance on chemical preparation and be taken through the photogram process step by step.
All materials are included. A selection of objects will be available at the venue, although attendees are encouraged to bring their own favourite items.
