Plans for a new pedestrian crossing near the Co-op on Dunure Road in Doonfoot are moving forward after concerns were raised about pedestrian safety in the area.
Ayr MSP Siobhian Brown has confirmed that Ayrshire Roads Alliance is undertaking a feasibility study to examine whether a crossing can be introduced. A consultation is expected to take place soon, giving local residents an opportunity to comment on the proposal.
What is being proposed?
The potential crossing would be located near the Co-op on Dunure Road. The work is currently at the assessment stage, and no decision has yet been made on whether the crossing will be built.
Ms Brown said: “Residents have raised concerns with me over the years about the need for a safer pedestrian crossing near the Co-op, so I’m pleased to see this now moving forward.”
She added that Ayrshire Roads Alliance is carrying out a design assessment and feasibility study, with implementation dependent on funding being available.
Residents will be invited to comment
The consultation has not yet gone live. Ms Brown said she would provide an update when it begins, allowing residents to have their say on the proposal.
Until the feasibility work and consultation are complete, the final design, timetable and funding arrangements for a crossing remain undecided.
