A popular Ayr town-centre pub is preparing for a new chapter, with a first glimpse of plans to reopen Mulligan’s shared by its incoming owners.
Mulligan’s opened in August 2023 and operated in the heart of Ayr for just over two years before serving its final day on September 29 last year. The venue was put on the market by its owners last year.
What is planned for Mulligan’s
The pub is being taken over by the owners of Ayr’s Drouthy Neebors, who announced earlier this month that Mulligan’s would be joining their group.
The new owners have not yet confirmed when customers will be able to return. They said work is continuing behind the scenes and that the timing of the reopening depends partly on changes to the beer pumps and the availability of a suitable fitting date.
In a message shared about the plans, a spokesperson said: “We are working hard in the background to be able to let you all know an opening date.”
Entertainment and food-and-drink offer
The reopened venue is expected to retain a social, entertainment-focused feel. Plans include a pool table, jukebox and dart board, with the spokesperson saying each will be free for customers to use.
Tennent’s is also set to be available on tap. The new owners have confirmed that Mulligan’s will welcome dogs, offering another feature for people visiting the Ayr venue with their pets.
When it previously operated, Mulligan’s included a bar area, a 14-cover restaurant and an outdoor beer garden with capacity for 150 customers. Those facilities formed part of the venue’s established offer during its time in the town centre.
For now, people waiting for the pub’s return will have to wait for a further announcement on the opening date. The owners said they are continuing preparations before confirming when Mulligan’s will reopen.
